  • Wix Headless allows developers to use Wix’s backend functionalities and business management platforms on any platform.
  • While paying for the premium Wix service, you can customize the front end using any coding language you like, giving a lot of creative freedom to web developers.

Wix has unveiled a new feature for web developers that grants users access to Wix’s full range of backend services and business management tools for any existing site or app they want. This feature, known as Wix Headless, gives developers and web designers full creative control to build a website how they want while gaining full access to Wix functionalities.

In the announcement, Wix detailed all the specific backend functionality that developers can get access to through Wix Headless. It included:

  • Wix Ecommerce
  • Content Manager
  • Bookings
  • Scheduling
  • Events
  • Ticketing
  • Pricing Plans

In our own research of the best website builders, Wix’s defining feature is the strength of the tools it gives its users access to. While these tools are top of the range, at the end of the day Wix is a website builder and has to be accessible to everyone, meaning professional web developers have to work under Wix’s frontend templates and limitations. With Wix Headless, this barrier is removed and developers can access the quality features offered by Wix while tailoring the front end using any platform they want.

Wix stated that, as in its free plan for website building, Wix Headless is completely free to start, but to gain full access to the features such as accepting payments, users will need to sign onto the Premium Plan, which begins at $16 per month.

Currently, Wix Headless is only known to support Wix JavaScriptSDK, but other coding languages may be supported in the future.

As of now, this move is certainly a game-changer in how website builders interact with developers, and time will tell if others wish to follow in Wix’s decentralized direction.

Being a Writer for Website Builder Guide isn’t just typing words on a laptop. Each day, I’m finding new and innovative ways to help you get online in a mode you feel comfortable with. And it’s a task I do with enthusiasm and gusto. Not only do I have experience building with all the providers we talk about - creating websites such as this Strikingly demo - but we also have our wonderful, constantly updated research fielded by our researchers, so you can be reassured that what we say is an honest reflection of our professional opinions. I’ve written articles and featured guest posts for apps like UXPin on web design in the modern age, as well as answered over 100 user comments on the site and delved into the world of choosing a domain name and adding Bitcoin payments to your site in my own pitched articles. All of this is to say that when I want to get you online - I mean it! Outside the office, I have attended the eCommerce Expo and built up a ton of industry knowledge through talks, workshops, and guided learning sessions with noted experts. The internet is made for everyone, so come online and let us help you get there.
