Are you thinking of starting a new blog, perhaps using a website builder or CMS like WordPress, or improving an existing one? Perhaps you even have a niche blog idea nobody has thought of yet? People turn to blogs for a number of purposes, from instructions and advice to product reviews and inside scoops. Such popularity explains why there are already more than 600 million blogs online.

But how do you start a successful blog with hundreds of daily readers and subscribers? Or one that makes tens of thousands of dollars in recurring income every month?

The web is crowded with hundreds of self-proclaimed blogging “gurus” telling you a thousand different things. But the art of a successful blog essentially boils down to two main tenets: quality content and a captivating user experience.

To help illustrate these key ideas, we’ve put together a list of notable blog examples that you can use to take inspiration, and to get on the right path. So let’s get started!

1. Making a Millennial Millionaire

Made with: Wix

The blog Making a Millennial Millionaire focuses on, you guessed it, making Millennial millionaires.

The blog layout is simple, with the homepage featuring an introduction to the blog before going straight into the blog content. Users can scroll through the most recent posts on the blog from the homepage.

There are an array of categories for users to choose from and the search function makes finding the content you are looking for easy.

The blog focuses on providing useful content for readers and keeps the layout and design simple in order to keep the focus on the content itself.

The blog also features embedded ads, a great way to monetize the website and build revenue.

I am a small business blogger who built my site, Making a Millennial Millionaire, entirely on Wix.
My entire business is my website! My blog is my business, and Wix has enabled me to now essentially generate passive income online.

Q&A

How long have you been using Wix?

I decided to build the website myself because I wanted to see how easily it really could be, and I wanted full control over the templates, formatting and SEO on the site. The main goal of the site was to teach myself SEO, and I think this went a long way towards doing that.

I picked Wix after some heavy research. I used Wix competitors in the past and just didn’t like the interfaces and templates, so I chose Wix.

What do you like most about Wix?

It was very easy to build my website! It took me about 2 days to get the site to where I wanted it, and Wix has some purpose-built formats for blogs, so that was incredibly easy to implement.

I like that Wix automatically submitted my sitemap to Google Search Console and took the account buildout out of my hands. As a novice in that arena when I started out, this allowed me to avoid the most common beginner mistakes.

Is there anything you’d change about Wix?

If I’d improve Wix, it would be in the back-end tools. The dashboard of the site just isn’t very helpful, and it’s better to go to Google Analytics or Google Search Console for insights, rather than the Wix integrations with the two programs which lags.

Would you recommend Wix?

I would definitely recommend Wix to others. It’s easy, has great templates and is affordable for the more premium versions.
Top Tip: You can make money from your blog via banner ads. If a user clicks on the ad and makes a purchase, you can earn commission. Be sure to choose ads that are relevant to your content and target audience in order to make the most money.

2. Zion Adventure Photog

Made with: Wix

Zion Adventure Photog is a great example of a blog that blends content with design. The blog’s posts offer comprehensive guidance on particular hikes, along with other more intrepid activities, such as canyoneering.

The blog serves as both a repository of knowledge and a portfolio of founder Arika’s adventure photography skills.

There is a strong sense of branding throughout the blog thanks to the orange color scheme that’s used not just for font and CTA boxes but is mirrored in the orange-toned filter that is used on all of the blog imagery.

We’ve been following KnowTechie right from the time it started as the hobby horse of just a lone person writing about technology.

Thanks to its unique angle of making tech news accessible to non-technical readers, it has grown steadily since then into a high-traffic website, with a team of writers regularly publishing several pieces of content.
